Posting Image

I am trying to post an image and can't seem to get it done

I have it on a personal web site and can see it from anywhere. I have the url set up on the post with the Img code around it. The post sees the image but displays it in a little box with an X in it. Is there something I am missing?

I have not displayed images before

You don't use the "url address", you use the "image address" which is dofferent and enables the computer to find the photo and import it from it source on the internet.

Ddirections are different for PC and iMac computers.

With the iMac, you go to the photo you want, hold down the control button, press doiwn on the mouse, and a pop up menu appears, and you choose "copy image address.

When posting you put

and the photo appears in your post.

I can't dtell you about the PC procedure, which includes right clicks, double clicks, slow drags, dipsy doodles, and Mellow Rolls..., (just joking.)

We discussed this within the past few weeks.

I'll be trying to find it with the search engine, but if any one else gets here before me go ahead and explain.

Which type of computer do you have?

Joe.

dtol - you used the wrong address for your image.

This is the code for your image

Code:
[img]http://home.gci.net/~shadetree/Engines.gif[/img]
You used
Code:
[img]http://home.gci.net/~shadetree/Engines.jpg[/img]
Your image is a gif not jpg
here it is

Engines.gif

Thanks guysl. Gotter down now. Actually I was trying it with both GIF and JPG formats not knowing what the problem was. Actually the problem was that I was adding the page to the url and it didn't need it.

How can I take an image in a pdf file and transfer it to my photo album?
When you click the link and it opens, save it on your computer. (Somewhere on the window that the PDF file opens in, there should be a button that says "Save A Copy" or a save option in one of your Menu buttons.)
Once it is saved on your computer upload it just like you do your photos.
If you have trouble saving a copy send me a PM with your email address and I will email it to you. Your email has to be able to receive a 2.5 meg file because the PDF is a large file.

If you want to convert the PDF file to a JPEG then you need Adobe Acrobat. I think it cost 2 or 300 dollars for the program. I have Adobe Acrobat so if this is what you want to do, let me know. I will do it for you and email the image to you.

Another way is to highlight what you want, copy it, and past it into a Powerpoint slide. Then save the powerpoint slide as an image in what ever format jpg, gif, bmp.

Dave-

Thanks! I was able to save it, but couldn't transfer it to my album because the system doesn't support/accept pdf files. I may have to ask you to convert to to jpeg or gif or ???

dtol-

Thanks for the advice. I'll try it and get back to you!

Joe.

I like to use a program called Paint Shop Pro. It is shareware ,
and it has a lot of good features, such as "Capture" and
with it you can select any part of a graphic you want and you
can save the captured area as any format your desire. It's quick ,
easy and best of all....it's free.

Example:

Another good free one is Paint.net. It was developed by a class at the University of Washington and I believe with some support from Microsoft. I have played around with it and it appears to be a very robust program. I don't believe it will work on an Apple.

Thanks for the tip Dave. I just downloaded PaintDotNet and I found a lot of new cool toys to play with and I am sure it will bring me joy, joy and more joy as I dig deeper into it's functionality.

OK, Dave and Mike...I too just downloaded paint.net...and I really am stupid, but just the way I never got Photoshop, I just don't get this one. And unlike Photoshop, this one has no useful help - and the help is not searchable. There is a tutorial website on how to do really cool advanced stuff - but nothing on just how to do simple things. But I am not ready to give up - walk me through learning this one. Here is what I want to do first , essentially dodge the shadow areas, especially our faces (I am an old darkroom guy, so please bear with). Here is the image I want to fix up, it was taken at Gig Harbor last weekend. So how do I do this with paint.net?

Ok Pat, You Win....After spending an hour on your mug...I give up. I can not make you look much better...and Patty doesn't need any improvments. I suggest you mention to the photographer to turn on his flash for some fill lite the next time you are in bright sun light and you want to hide in the shade while you are being photographed.

Down here in SW Florida..."The Sunshine State" we don't bother to turn our flashs off just because of this result. I am sure that someone here with a lot more graphic artist skills will be able to provide you with a much improved image soon. But me....I'm going fishing.

:P Mike

OK I will walk you through the process of working with this photo.
A couple of things you should know.
It is always best to work with the original photo, not one that has been modified as these are on the C-Brats site. Every time a JPEG file is saved, you get some degrading of it.

1. Open Your photo in Paint.net
You should have a small “History” window visible somewhere in Paint.net. If you don’t, Click on the “Window” menu at the top of Paint.net, then on the drop down menu, click on “History”.
2. Click on the “Layers” menu (top of Paint.net), then on the drop down menu move your mouse to “Adjustments” then on the pop out menu click on “Levels”.
3. Move the “Levels Adjustments” window so you can see your photo.
4. On the “Levels Adjustments” window, click on the “Auto” button.
5. The middle value of the output column it will be .66. Change it to .50 to lighten it a little more. Then click “OK”
6. Now again click on “Layers” menu (top of Paint.net) then “Adjustments” and this time click on “Brightness / Contrast”. Move the window so you can see your photo.
7. Change the “Contrast” value to 20 and the “Brightness” value to -15, then click “OK”
8. Click on “Layers” menu then “Adjustments” then “Hue / Saturation”. Move the window.
9. Change the “Saturation” value to 120 and the “Hue” value to 10. Now click “OK”
10. To view the changes with the original photo click on “Open Image” on the small History window and you will see what you started with. You can click on the different selections on the History window to see how each one changed your photo.
11. Click on “File” (top of Paint.net), then on the drop down menu, click on “Save As”.
12. On the “Save as type”, make sure it is “JPEG”. Select the folder you want to save it in then give your file a name. (Do not over right the original)
13. Click on the “Save” button.
14. A Save Configuration window will pop up. (The default value of 95 and is the best value to use, so click “OK”.

If you decide to make more adjustments to your photo, use your original, not this copy. You will get better results. If I had a copy of the original, the final results would be better than this copy.

I know these instructions are more detailed than you need, but it may help others that may want to try Paint.net. If you or anyone else need more help with Paint.net feel free to ask and I will do my best to help. I don’t use Paint.net but may start after I saw what I can do with it. This will give you a jump start with Paint.net. Now play with it for awhile and we will probably be able to help each other.
