Outboard motor rams

Not sure if the part name is correct. Talking about the 2 rods that outboard sets down on. Just wondering when your underway, and rasing and lowering motor getting on plane ect. Can you damage them by lowering to far with outboard. Was just moving boat to its winter spot under a metal carport. When I was putting motor down from cabin realized I may at times be lowering it too much? Now that its on land I just bump against rams, but underway sometimes hold button too long, thanks.

Rams are part of power tilt and trim unit can be raised full up and down in the water and on dry land without damage. They use electric motors and might use some juice from the batteries, No problem if they are on a charger. When I raise the motor to full up position, I set the motor foot or trailer support to keep pressure off the rams, lube them with purple marine grease and it is a safety feature, too. It is a good idea to keep the fluid at least annually and check after each use for leaks about the rams.
