I just got back from the mailbox. One bill and six pieces of junk mail. Three of which were invites for credit cards. I am so tired of the junk mail. We get it almost every day.

I've started a new habit of returning all of the envelopes that have return postage, with the polite (really, not kidding) statement that I am not interested, and the request for the business to remove me from their mailing list.

I wonder what trend we would see if all recipients would start sending this crap back???

I feel your pain I have a friend who we are always playing practical jokes on one another. Several years ago I snuck into his vegtable garden and sewed strawberries on his tomato plants. He retaliated by signing me up for everything he could with mail in coupons. Everything from Arthur Murray dance lessons to Truck Driving school. My mailbox was flooded for years. Your plan may help the struggling postal service.

My SPAM folder only holds 30 days worth.

Bill, I normally get about 50 of those in a day, nothing like your volume. Too bad most of that crap is redirected through other accounts or has a bogus address. That is one time that I think a denial of service attack would be appropriate.

Sea story follows:

As you may know, in the '60's, Polaris cold water patrols meant no mail for a minimum of 56 days, piling up in the submarine's home port for delivery soon after they tied up to the pier. An unmarried buddy on the other crew had the misfortune of griping that he only received one or two letters at the end of his previous patrol.

I did the same thing your friend did - and did it for over six weeks straight, beginning three weeks before he was scheduled to leave on patrol. Every magazine "bingo" card I could find - even collecting them at dental offices -- anywhere. Way back when internet spam didn't exist but mailbox spam was far more common.

When we arrived to relieve the "Gold" crew, we found he had, indeed, received mail. BAGS of mail! More than the rest of the crew combined! I never dared tell him I did it....

Don, we did the same with a buddy of mine in '66. He wasn't receiving any mail and was quite down about it. So, we similarly "fixed him up" with every free bit of crap we could get for him. One of the most memorable was an offer that included the cross section of a shoe, so he could sign up to pursue a new business adventure as a shoe salesman when he left Viet Nam. We never heard a peep from him again about not receiving mail.
 
I return the contents of their mailings cut up in small pieces in their prepaid envelops. If nothing else I get the satisfaction of knowing I am cutting into their bottom line..if only by pennies.

Now if we the "Public" could only become organized for 5 minutes, then maybe we could make an impact. I am not holding my breath. I will just continue sorting my mail at the trash bin on my way back from the post box. Go Green...Recycle.
 
You can actually glue the postage reply envelope to a brick and the company will have to pay the postage... :xlol

Hmmmm. Parcel post on a brick is about seven (7) bucks. I just had three of them mailed to me. You ask why would I have bricks mailed... They were from the old family grist mill in Deep River, North Carolina. It was started by a great great great grandfather in 1812.
 
Keep those card and letters comming ! Thats my retirement :lol:
The Post Office is in such bad financial shape, you may soon see big brown trucks delivering your mail.

Do the same, but with the shredded documents from the home shredder. That stuff is a PIA to clean up. Hole punch leftovers work even better, but they are limited in supply. :twisted:

You can opt out of getting any offers for credit cards. We both did it for life. Took about three months, but no more credit card offers now.
