New seats in: 1988 C-Dory 16

When we bought our boat it needed lots of TLC, especially the seats. The helm seat was filthy and pretty much destroyed, and the other completely missing, including all the mounting hardware.

Here’s what we started with — yuck!

It took a while to figure out the right parts to do this, so I thought I’d post all that in case it helps others. I had to find just the right pedestal to fit the existing holes in the floor. In the end, everything was a simple bolt-in and the actual installation only took a few minutes.

Seat pedestal:
Garelick Smooth Series 15”, #GAR 75415

Seat swivel:
Garelick Anodized Spider Top, #GAR 99023

Seats:
Springfield Folding High-Back Seat, white: #1040649

Total cost was about $350 for two seats, one swivel and one pedestal. The seats came from West Marine and the pedestal & swivel from Fisheries Supply.

Nice clean job. What is the purpose of the hatch cover in the port side bulkhead? Is is a storage compartment, or what? Also, how do you find the throttle placement? I had to make a bracket to move mine forward.

That hatch cover is for some kind of built-in tackle box. It has pull-out shelves to hold plastic tackle organizers. Came with the boat; I guess a prior owner installed it.

Throttle placement seems OK. I don’t have a lot of seat time with the boat yet, so we’ll see.

Some of those built in tackle boxes come with a little plastic key. Lockable space on the 16 is rare, so check to see if there is a little spot for a simple key on the tackle box latch.

Doesn't the upper part of your cabin hatch lock to the lower half ?

As far as the shift lever.
I found I had to reach behind me to put it into reverse. :smilep

Mine has a lock on it, yes. No key for the lock came with my boat so I had to put in a new lock assembly, but that was easy.
