Let's keep feedback/questions/problems with the new Photo Album software going in this thread.

Made some other changes/additions as well and if can get Da Nerd to figure out why I can't get into my photo album and fix that minor little detail I'll add some pics. I'm big on visuals!

Hey Ol' Pal...how about some more details? Things are working fine for me, but I don't have a Mac to test things on. I've verified basic functionality on Windows, using IE and Firefox.

Can any of you other Mac folks verify whether or not your album is working as expected?

Bill (Da Nag) - what happened to my photo album. I changed my email address in my profile and my photo album was re-set to the default values. This also happened when you added the extra content (properties) available to the members. However I was able to reset my properties (rows, columns, borders + of my photos per album). Now I don’t have that option and my photos are out of order. I know I can change the order but I liked the option of setting other values also. On my album actions, I no longer have the properties options available. Is there a way of fixing this?

Thanks

Dave - your email address change was unrelated to what you noticed in the photo album. The album changes were due to upgrades I performed the other night.

The photo album upgrade was required to fix a major security bug - it's what caused the site to go offline a couple weeks ago. Yup...we were hacked. Unfortunately, given the severity of the problem, I didn't have as much time to prepare as I would like, and that meant putting the upgrade in place without documenting several changes, including those you've noticed.

RE the "properties" option - unfortunately, that is gone for good. Reason being, it contains many new capabilities in addition to those we offered before - capabilities I don't want made available. For example, it allows the owner of the album to change the maximum photo size allowed. With a couple clicks of the mouse, they could be uploading 8 megapixel photos at 12+MB each. That would severely impact the disk space and bandwidth quotas we have on the C-Brats account.

RE the columns/rows option - when the upgrade was performed, many default values were put back in place, including that one. It wasn't intentional, but there is a reason for the default value; 3 thumbnails across is the maximum that will fit for folks still at 800x600 resolution. I like to keep the site designed so that nobody has to scroll left/right unless absolutley necessary. However...if you want that changed, we'll do it for you - just drop me a PM with the details. I wasn't aware anyone had changed that in their albums.

RE the rearranging - that's part of what I'll be writing up when I get a chance. You should still have that option, it's just under a different name, and it's actually enhanced. My testing with a "non-admin" account shows a "rearrange items" option in the drop-down box for the album owner. Give it a shot, I think you'll like it. If for some reason you are not seeing that option in your album, let me know and I'll look into it.

More to come, when I get the time to write it up...

Hey Bill, "ole buddy,

OK, here is my dilemma in a nut shell with respect to the photo album.
I have 3 browsers on my Mac. The Mac browser Safari, Firefox, and Explorer.

With Safari I can't even get into 3rd Bytes photo album. I get the message: "No Photo Matches" and "No Album Matches". However I can
get into other C-Brat albums, just not my own........go figure.

Wth Firefox I can open my (3rd Byte's) photo album but I have no "Album Actions" feature. Just a white hole where it should be.

With Explorer ( the crappiest browser) I can get into my album and it
even shows the "Album Actions" feature. That gave me the illusion that I
was in business. Mistake! I selected 5 photos to add to my album and
35 minutes later the ball is still spinning and nothing is happening. I know it can be a little slow uploading the pics but this is a Mac, Though not as upscale as the G5 that Sea Wolf Joe operates, My G4 running OS10.3.9 isn't exactly a slug. Thus I signed off and went to more productive activities.

I can't swear that I am not culpable for my problem but I can say that I
didn't have this problem before and I didn't do anything to my knowledge
that would cause it.

I did run the problem with not being able to access the album, by that venerable old codger Mike at War and Peace, Oregon and he said he didn't see any problem with accessing my album. He generously sent me a url for my photo album and with it I am able to access it with Safari, but here again, using that entry I don't have the "Album Actions" option.

Bill, you have a lot more important things to do other than fiddle with my little problem so don't lose any sleep over it.......I won't. On the other hand if you had an easy fix it would be nice.

DaNag Bill o' Brother: Many thanks for your coninued work, efforts and accomplishments for us on this site. It is for sure my lifeline to the water when a real trip is for what ever reason not going to happen....and a great educational tool when ya get ready to fix something or go somewhere and ya need a bit of "how dey do dat" info.

As a thought/request...on the photo albumns, instead of the numbers that number the pages of photo albumns, could we have the 26 letters as to take us to the letter of the boat name we are looking for...? Or is this simply too much time to keep up?

Byrdman.. Virtual Cruising Till I get C-Byrd Back from Her facelift.

Thanks Joe, for checking all the browsers out on your Mac. My Mac worked fine on all three browsers until 3 or 4 weeks ago.

I think it's probably some weird thing peculiar to my Mac and me. Just a minor nuisance in the overall scheme of things.

I am surprised there has not been any comments on the new album format of four columns by six rows. 24 thumbnails now verses 9 the old way. I personally like it. Makes it much easier to search an album for a particular photo, without going from screen to screen.

Thank you Bill for the new format.

I agree Dave, the new format is nice. Man, are we ever fortunate to have Bill and Mike owning/running this site. They are special to be sure!

Good news for 3rd Byte. My photo album access is resolved. Safari,
Firefox and Explorer all appear to be working fine.

Thanks a bunch, Bill.

Heh...don't be so modest. You're the one who suggested it, and illustrated to me how well it worked. All I did was make a few mouse clicks...

Good idea, Dave - thanks.

I'm losing pictures in the album of fish...says there are 11, but it only showed 6....I did a sort and it showed me 7 of the 11, but sorted again and it went back to 6...whassup?

When I go there I see 11.

Game warden must be confiscating some. You two catch too many fish. :wink

Not -- you live on the best fishing water in the area -- and I've heard you're a fish slayer....you don't need no puny pictures :P

I'm really glad they returned from the 'deep' tho :)

Not being the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to photo album actions I have to ask. Is it possible to make quick edits or other have album arrangements take place with out having everything end up back in the Recent Photo section? The general population is probably not interested in why you changed a photos location or why you changed the verbiage on a photo. Can I click this or that or change something in the profile? Or am I fretting over something superficial? Mike on Huda Thunkit

One feature I would like to see with regards to photos is a way to sort albums by boat year (Maybe I am missing how?). I like being able to sort the "Our C-Dorys" section by boat year but the results do not show if this person has an album or not. I have to click on the name to find out if they have pictures of their boat. Since I have an old (82) boat I am most interested in the early 80s boats but I haven't found an efficient way to find all galleries of boats in this year range.

That said, this is an outstanding site that I thoroughly enjoy.
