New Honda 50 issue

do dawdle

I've got just over 4 hours on my Honda 50 and it runs like a dream but there's one issue.

At 3600 RPM there is a just perceptible miss that occurs about every 7 to 15 seconds. (or thereabouts)

It's so minor that I shouldn't call it a miss; it is more accurate to call it a blip. However, it's definitely noticeable, especially when you're paying attention. If you were just running the boat as normal for fishing and fun, it would probably take quite a while to catch it, but during the break in I was going very slowly through the RPM range and after passing through the 3600 spot a couple times I was able to pin it down.

I will be going back to PDX for my cardio-check late this month and I've also made an appointment with Sportcraft for the 20 hour service so they'll get a chance to go after the bug then.

To me, it sounds like there's a little glitch in the fuel injection system. Hopefully it will be there when they shop-test the motor. If not, we'll have to take it out on the water, because it's definitely consistent when it's actually pushing the boat.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

I had a similar problem with my near new Honda 50. It turned out to be water in the old fuel and crap in the fuel tank. Cleaned the tank and it has run fine since. Also, if you have an inline filter it could be doing it's job and getting clogged. Let us know how it works out. Good luck.

Just like your car when it gets in those moods, it could be just about anything. You could have erradic fuel pressure, a spark miss for a number of reasons, or an injector that is plain and simple not right. It could even be a faulty pressure regulator. Who knows.....let the dealer mess with it.

But, it could be something very simple and basic. I would rule out your filters by changing them - they probably need it anyway.
