Need some help with new CD. Transom Question.

Newly purchased.

What are in the two boxes/compartments at the stern? The diamond plate seems to be glued down. Just wondering if that is useable space. I would like to put a smaller fuel tank (get rid of the existing one) in one side and the battery on the other side.

She's an '84.

This boat is not a standard configuration. I have not seen a c-dory with those boxes before but i will make a guess and say foam? I bet two dollars, all I have in the wallet right now, that they are filled with foam for flotation. newer 16ft c-Dory's had the floatation against the walls under the rail.
 
I've looked at tons of pictures and have never seen one like this either. It looks factory. Doesn't look like something added on. Except for the diamond plate; I don't think that would have come original.

Where would the battery and fuel tank have gone on this thing. This setup surely can't be original. It would sure be nice to make that useable space.

Would the HIN number give any indication to model or design?
 
I'm glad to see you've rescued the boat from its mistreatment of the past. Lots for you to do, mysteries to be resolved and vast improvements to be made. As a new C-Brat myself, this is the place where you will get answers.

It looks like a guy name of Rube Goldberg had a shot at this boat. It will be fun to see you turn it into the queen that it should be.
