Need data card for Garmin 2006C for software update

Several weeks before I purchased my CD22, someone stole the Garmin 2006C Chartplotter. The previous owner purchased one on eBay to replace it. I was able to buy the data card for the Puget Sound area, but now I see that the tide table chart won't update and the Garmin website says that the GPS needs to be updated to the latest software. Since that Chartplotter has been discontinued, I don't know what the last firmware update was, nor whether the last one would still be too old to update tide information. Purhaps someone could tell me?

If the last update still works on tides, is there anyone who has that data card who would be willing to let me borrow it to update my Chartplotter?

I just went through this and I found a good solution. I called Garmin and explained that I wanted to update my 2006c to the last/latest software, and they said that was 2008, and they could sent me an update data card, no problem (this after I agonized, bought a data card programmer, etc. :cry).

What they do is charge you $50, plus, if I remember correctly, a token amount of shipping, and send you the card. When you are done with the card you send it back and they refund the $50 -- so all you end up paying is two very small amounts for shipping (it's in an envelope, so no need for fancy or expensive shipping). I have the card in my possession now, but it probably makes more sense for you to call them and get a copy than for me to send it on to you (but PM me if you strike out at Garmin for some odd reason).

My notes say I spoke with Ron at Garmin (I don't have the number handy, but I just looked them up online and called the number that popped up; if you have trouble finding it let me know and I can look back on my phone). This was earlier this month and I had the card in hand within three days of calling them.

By the way, just in case your new 2006c is already at this level, the latest update that shows on the Garmin site (I'm presuming this is what they sent me but have not verified it) is software version 5.9. It sounds like yours is probably not at this level, but I figured you might want to at least check before ordering the card.

An additional note (which I was not aware of before I started looking into it) is that the antenna has its own software version. On the 2006c the main software update pushes the antenna update through, so it's all in one motion when you run the update card -- but the software version number for the antenna will be a separate one. If my notes are correct the latest/last antenna software is 2.9.

I think it is an earlier version on my 2006c. I will check it tomorrow. That is nice to know about the Antenna update as well.
