Mooring ball banging hull in the middle of the night

I searched for a discussion, but didn't find one on C-Brats. After many attempts, we discovered an easy solution to keep the mooring ball from banging against the hull in the middle of the night. We use a bungee cord.

Once you've secured the mooring ball. Attach a bungee from the anchor or anchor roller directly to the mooring ball ring. You want the bungee tight enough to prevent the ball from touching the hull, but with enough stretch so that the mooring line(s) will bear the load when the wind blows and stretches the bungee. You may need to adjust your mooring line a bit. It took us a few tries to get this right, but now we sleep well. :moon
 
Thanks for posting this. We recently spent the night in Eagle Harbor on Cyprus Island on a mooring buoy. Oh buoy what a night, the wind and tide were just right to bang that buoy all night long. I adjusted the line length several times and didnt come up with the right solution but this method looks promising. We will definitely try this next time out. My 25 didnt come with the line guides so I will be adding those today.

We don't have line guides (bow chocks) on our boat. Our mooring lines are tied directly to the bow cleat. Just find the right length of bungee cord to get the proper stretch to make enough resistance so the ball can't reach the hull when it tries to. This method continues to work for us. If I remember correctly, Eagle Harbor at Cypress Island is where I came up with this idea in desperation to get some sleep! Interesting that this is the same location for you to also have this problem. Thanks.
