I installed the DeLorme on my laptop. It is great for when we are in the motorhome. I tried it out last night in the jeep (laptop on my lap) Pat tried to trick it by running a parallel course on the next street--- she got caught. It told her that she was not on the route and then it corrected the route so she could find her way back. I also loaded the Topo USA maps from DeLorme.

I've done the same thing (DeLorme Topo) and "cruised" up the entire Tombigbee and many others I'm interested in. What is great is the old place names (steamboat landing sites, etc.) are on it. For anyone interested, I also can't recommend "A Cruising Guide to the: Tennessee River, Tenn-Tom Waterway, and Lower Tombigbee River by Thomas W. Marian & W. J. Rumsey. Part history book as you cruise & combined with GPS and DeLorme will lead you to many interesting sites. I have been using the DeLorme out west since the first edition came out (Topo) doing everything from finding old sites to filing mineral claims first checked out here in Florida with it. Topo is great!

We used Microsoft Streets and Trips on our laptop with the USB GPS puck suction-cupped to the window when we were in the East back in June, worked VERY well...we used the same setup with Coastal Explorer on the water...these things are really great!
