Misc Tomcat Questions

Hi There,

I spent a few hours cleaning up the new (to me) Tomcat and had a few miscellaneous questions I thought I'd send out to help my learning curve:

1) I'm confused by the Port/Starboard Gas tank switch. Does this switch change the fuel gauge only or is the selected tank the one being consumed? I see I have two gas fills so I am assuming they are completely independent to each engine.

2) What products have been successful bringing the interior wood trim back to life? Mine doesn't look bad but it's weathered.

3) I need to also find something to remove black sole shoe scuffs. Any ideas?

4) I thought my dinette table would drop down to make a lounging area. The table is on hinges but the support looks locked in. Was this an option or possible a mod the previous owner made? I don't think that it will be too difficult to change myself. There are supports under the table that would support a flat board.

Thanks.

Westie,

The Port/Starboard fuel switch switches the fuel gauge between the two tanks. The tanks are separate and don't cross feed unless extensive modification has been done.

A little teak oil restores the shine and protects the wood.

The best cleaner for the floor inside and in the cockpit is Soft Scrub Gel with Bleach. I ordered a case online because it's hard to find.

The table should have an over center latch that has to be released. The hinge will then release when the table is dipped slightly and moved to the right. It then fits on the ledgers below and the cushions can be arranged to make a berth. We used it once in 7 years and the sister in law liked it!

Enjoy the boat and get to the PNW as soon as possible!

for rubber scuffs and tar i've always used some sort of petroleum light end and a rag to remove them. IE wd40, diesel, ect. Just be aware that stuff like this can take off more than just rubber scuffs, it will take off wax and even some finishes. Petroleum probably isn't the best thing in the world for jell coat but i've been using diesel my whole life to clean tar off unpainted bottoms without any adverse effects.

Mr. Clean Magic Eraser Extra Power removes black scuff marks, mold, ink and just about anything you can do to your boat. We dive from our Tomcat so we constantly have rubber boots and weightbelts rubbing against the hatch covers at the stern. Magic Eraser wipes the marks away in seconds.
