"Max" Type Anchors

I've been doing some research on which anchoring system to go with on my C-Dory 22. After looking through this site, it seems that most of the C-Dory owners are either using the 22# Bruce type anchor or the 14# Delta. I found the links below that discuss the "Max" anchor and there seems to be some agreement that it possesses superior holding power and will work well in most bottom types. I'll be anchoring in sand, coral, and rock here in Hawaii, and at times we can get some very strong winds. Has anybody had any experience using a Max anchor? Also, I plan on using a windlass and would like to have an anchor that will self launch. Would those who are experienced with such things care to take a look at this anchor to see whether it looks like it will self launch?

That looks like a decent anchor. I use a 16# bruce and a pivoting bow roller.

Last year we rode out a 25-30 mph blow with about a 3 or 4-1 scope on the rode. It was calm water when we anchored, other wise we I would have used more like a 7-1 scope.

It was rather jerky, and I didn't feel like resetting in the middle of the night. There were other boats around.

We were on a sandy bottom and the bruce held great.

I've held good on rocky bottom in a strong current, but I had to finesse the anchor out of the rocks.

When I dive, I always go down the rode and make sure the anchor is set good-- would be the pits to come up and no boat :shock: Don't always have someone on board when we go down.
