Marbin 31

journey on

When we bought Journey On in 2005, we actually bought it from the factory retailer dealer: “Marbin Marine.”

Now, we’re in Tofino, Vancouver Isle, and here pulls in a boat, the owners telling us that it’s the father of my boat, a Marbin 31.

The boat was built in 1978. Apparently Marbin was a predecessor to Tolland? And where is Marbin now?

Anyway, its an inboard with a perkins diesel. Great boat, located in Pt Alberni, third owner. Pleasant couple, she kayaks, he diver. He used to diveunder the ice in Great Slave Lake, using a dry suit and “getting cold.”

This picture compares Journey On (a C-25) and Leta (a Marbin 31). We’re in Matilda Inlet, Clayoquot Sound.

The original company was Marben Marine. Roy Toland (father), named this company after his sons, Mark and Ben Toland. Back in the late 70's they were building fiberglass commercial fishing boats and an Ed Monk Jr. designed displacement trawler (pleasure) under the Marben name. The original C-Dory (22' angler model with flat bottom) was introduced in 1981, and the rest is history.
I'm sure there are other C-Brats that call fill in the details, but that is the short story.
Best Regards,
Leo

My 1981 "Hunky Dory" still has the Hunky Dory decal on it with the Marben Marine name, address and phone number on it.
