Looking for VHF radio recommendations

I would appreciate any feedback you folks might have on VHF radios. We will be predominantly running off the coast of Oregon and the San Juan islands, possibly even over to Victoria, BC. So many options and models, and so little experience to truly recognize what is needed versus what is fluff. Thanks, in advance, for your assistance.

Hi Steve, I upgraded from my 15 year old Standard Horizon Explorer this spring. I was looking @ Icom and S.H. @ the time when West Marine closed out the S.H. Intrepid for 129.00 w/ coupons and rebate so I jumped on it. Both now offer D.S.C. and scanning on their entry level V.H.F.s. I think either would be a fine choice. More features means more$$$.
