Looking for advice for Navy Nephew (nuke)

Hi guys,
I have a nephew about to complete his service with the Navy as a nuke on boomer subs. He is looking for job opportunities on the outside.

I would welcome any advice and if possible networking/job contacts. For what it's worth he's a great kid, married with 4 kids of his own, well adjusted, etc.

Thanks!

What kind of Nuke? There are several rates that are given a basic skill like Electronic Tech, and then go to Nuke school for advanced training. If he's an officer it's tougher. As a hiring manager at Memorex in the '70's I had to turn down a very well trained Navy nuke Lt. Overqualified. He needed a job but we knew it would be temporary and he'd bail as soon as he found a better fit.

His best chances, frankly, lie with Department of Defense manufacturers/contractors and it's very important to create relationships with civilian tech reps in his field before he leaves.

Good luck.

Matt,

He needs to apply at a Nuclear Power Plant. There is one in Glen Rose, Texas and I know that roughly 80% of all there employees are prior Navy Nukes.

My nephew is a nuke also. He is an instructor at the nuke school in South Carolina but getting ready to transfer to Bremerton, Wa.

Good luck,

Kevin
