June fishing in the Seattle area?

Hi Brats,

My wife has a veterinary conference in Seattle June 12-15 next year and I was thinking of tagging along. How is the fishing that time of year and would there be any chance that I could team up with a fellow C-Brat and give it a try? I will have a rental car.

Thanks in advance!

June is the start of when things get good in the ocean. It's still a bit early for the Seattle area fishing. The best bet that time of year is chinook fishing off our west coast. I'm expecting a grandchild around then otherwise I'd offer to take you chinook fishing out at Neah Bay.

After seeing the recent pictures of fishing out of CQ, can someone give me a general location of CQ, I have heard of it but never been there. I was thinking of coming up this summer to fish. The oregon coast was way too hard of fishing for so few fish this year. I only had one really outstanding day of coho fishing.

Nick When the time gets closer give me a yell maybe we can get a trip in fishing Lake Washington. There are some monster cutthroat in there. As said the salt in the Seattle are is slow than, But I have stuck fish in June before.

Spike,

Sounds great!

The only cutthroat that I have caught have been in the WY Big Horns and were sub 12". I will definitely give ou a call!

Best,

Nick

If wdfw has the same seasons as last year then June 15 halibut and lingcod close. If you drop you wife off at the hotel and head straight to a boat you just might get there in time. June in the sound would have to be area 8-2 for kings, but only at the bubble ( slow fishing) . Area 10 is open for Catch and release and 11 and 13 for clipped kings. July is far better for kings in the sound. I never fish the south sound but I hear it can be good.

...cutthroat...
 You don't come all the to Washington to chase trout. That's like going to Germany to drink American Budweiser. :xlol

If'n you're coming to Washington, ya gotta go out in the salt, son. Chase them big fish! If things are similar to last year, chinook salmon opens out of Westport on June 8th. The quota for halibut will probably be met, but ya never know. Lings will still be open, as will sea bass. The tides are pretty decent for crossing the bar on the 14th if you get an early start. I could probably be persuaded to make a trip like that with the right beer. :beer

The Straits (Neah Bay and Sekiu) probably won't be open for salmon yet, but you might find someone going after halibut. I've heard that Jake B guy's quite a fisherman.

Oh, and no offense to Spike intended. If you want to catch some nice cutthroat, he's the goto guy. :)

You forgot to mention that all the fish in saltwater up here are the personal property of our twin brothers Tom and Roger

Chinook should open on June 16th in Neah Bay offshore and the Straits (if the seasons are similar to previous years). So if you can get out there then, it should be good.

You're right, Roger. Last year Area 4 opened on the 16th, which was the third Saturday of the month. So if DFW maintains that scheduling, it should open on 15 June this year.

So, Nick, if you can convince your wife to stay an extra day or two, there'd be some good fishing out that way, too.
