Nice Mike. They also look soft shell. Will be out there for them next week.

Will be in tillamook for a few days doing the same. Offshore weather dependent.

holly sh#t. thats a lot of crab in one pull.

Mike, do you freeze the crab for later? If so, what is your preferred method?

Heading out for a low tide pot soak this morning. It’s unbelievable how nice the weather is for the middle of October.

We have tried a couple methods for freezing but they only keep for a few weeks. The best way for us is to freeze the cooked crab whole and then seal by dipping in ice water and refreezing a few times. A sharp freezer is really needed for that to work well though. Ours doesn’t get cold enough.

We have quit bothering with trying to freeze the things and just eat our fill during the season.

Well now, I don’t want to count my crab before they are cracked, but this is just the goofy ring we toss over the side of the boat while anchored waiting for slack tide. At least a limit in it and we kept six of the best ones. Less than 20 minutes in the water.

Good job Mike. We fished out of Newport Bay yesterday. Caught 34 legals, kept the 24 largest. Gary

For freezing crab try this:

Crack your crab and put it in a zip lock sandwich baggie in the amount you generally use. Partially close the baggie leaving a small air escape hole. Roll the baggie of crab on the table to expel all the air and then finish sealing the baggie. Then vacuum pack. Works pretty well.
