My interest in the new Standard Horizon GX2100 VHF radio/AIS reciever spurred me to call the mother ship to see if it is compatible with my older SH CP1000C Plotter. My discussion with SH Tech reminded me that my firmware was out of date on both the plotter and it's associated sonar module, the FF 520.
SH doesn't provide the updates and had me contact Jeppesen Marine as they'd acquired C-Map a while back.
I sent Jeppesen $49.99 for each of the chips. Add sales tax and s+h and it was $116.68 on my Visa Card. Once I complete the update and return the chips I'll be credited $60.00 ($30.00 X 2). With return shipping it should cost me about $65 total when all is said and done.
I offer this as a reminder that updates MAY be available for your units, whatever they are. You should check with customer service or a local dealer.
And a special reminder to Brats with older, discontinued units like me. At some point the manufacturers may simply phase out updates for our stuff.
