Generator...Where did you mount yours ??

I bought a new Yamaha Generator for SEA3PO for Christmas...and now I am looking for a good place to mount it..... I was thinking of mounting it between the lazarettes .... over the motor well..... so the exhaust could go back through the canvas cover.... I just bought the 1K unit.... after talking to Sue maybe I should have bought the larger unit....she wants to run a heater off it....and I doubt it will do it... all I wanted it for was for lights and radio, maybe as a emergency battery charger and stuff like that...

IDEAS ??

We have the Honda 2K...runs a toaster oven, used to run a microwave (that we never used, that is why it now runs a toaster oven!) AND runs the little electric heater if / when we need it. Also charges the batteries and runs the hot water heater, which is actually what it is used most for - having pressurized hot water in the galley is VERY nice! David made us a little stand that sat in the motor well, we have used that, but we have also just set it on the swim step (bungied down well) and probably the favorite place is just to set it on top of a big cooler in the cockpit with the exhaust pointed out over the motor well. Of course the raised cockpit on the CD25 makes this more practical. We also have a CO detector in the cabin, highly recommended for anyone running a portable generator on-board.

I set mine in the motorwell with the exhaust pointed out. You can use a couple of boards to make it sit level.

The 1000i Honda will run an electric heater on low (~750 watts) just fine, and that's about 3000 btus and about all you'll ever need unless you're in freezing conditions.

I have that same generator, and never run my electric heaters on high, either in the CD-22 or Sea Ray.

On the C-Dory, I run the Honda sitting on the cooler just in front of the motor well with the exhaust facing backward into the motor well. Like Pat, I also have a CO detector in the cabin.

On the Sea Ray, I can run it on the generator box at the aft corner of the cockpit or down on the swim step, which is probably safer. The Sea Ray is a lot bigger than the C-Dory, but better insulated, so the low setting does fine there as well.
