Fuel grades

I've always used non-ethanol 87 grade for my boat with 2003 honda bf40s.

I'm in the keys right now and I cannot find on the water fuel except in 90 or 91. Will the motors run ok with the higher grade fuel? Anybody using it? I don't want to pull the boat out every time I need to refuel.

Thanks

They will work fine on any grade gas you put in them (except for 88 which is 15% ethanol).

The higher octanes allow for better performance (or even normal operation) in engines that can use or require the higher octane. Higher compression ratio engines usually require higher octane gas to prevent detonation.

Your BF40s are not that type of engine.

For instance, my Nissan Pathfinder runs fine on 87 gas. But there is a sticker on the full filler door that says "For best performance use Premium Grade Gasoline". Never been able to tell the difference.
