Fireworks shows

Two Bears

I remember a few years ago some discussion about Fireworks shows, both US and Canadian in Puget Sound. Where best to anchor a boat and how to see several shows on different days.

We're a bit away and wonder if things have changed and someone has that info available.

We do a family Poulsbo July 3rd trip each year. The show is good, the bay is huge, the turnout impressive! And the bakery!!! My two brothers with their boats & assorted girlfriends (theirs not mine) come along. Sometimes some other friends show up.

There is also Seattle and Eagle Harbor (Bainbridge Island) on July 4th. We have anchored at Eagle and got to enjoy both shows, but only once. Eagle is small and gets really crowded...unsafe crowded.

I know Fisherman's Bay & Friday Harbor in the San Juans also do shows. Never done it due to distance.

Here is a pretty complete listing: http://www.nwboatinfo.com/events-4th.html

There area also some impressive fireworks across the border for Canada Day (July 1). In Port Angeles, we watch the show in Victoria, 15 miles away. on the 1st then watch the Fourth fireworks in the PA Harbor.

Ever had burning pyrotechnic parts land in your cockpit?
This is one experience I wish I'd missed. Thank you Charlevoix, MI.
On balance, it does add a new dimension to the excitement...

Aye.

Mark, Thanks for that link.

I have enjoyed the FW at Butchart Gardens, just north of Victoria. Anchored in the cove/canal behind the gardens for a really close-up show where you can hear the music. That will be on Saturday nights in the summer, and on July 1, Canada Day.

Then go across to Deer harbor on Orcas Island for July 3. Good show, anchored or docked. (Ice Cream).

Then Fishermans Bay on Lopez, across from Friday Harbor for the 4th of July. Anchor there, and stay where you are over night. Excellent show, and usually several C-Dorys in the Bay.

God Bless America,

Vancouver BC, the Celebration of Light, all week!

But my favorite will always be Symphony Splash. The Victoria, BC symphony is on a barge in the inner harbor for an evening of amazing music. They shut down the streets around the Parliament Building and the Empress Hotel. Somewhere around 40,000 people show up with blankets to settle in for a magnificent celebration of BC Day; August 5th this year. The atmosphere is magical for this weekend and culminates with the 1812 Overture, WITH cannons. If you can't bring your own boat, at least take one of the ferry's.
