The time for cruising the mighty Erie Canal is soon upon us. If you can trailer your boat this is one of the nicest summer and fall cruising grounds in the East. There are over 525 miles of protected waterway and many wonderful towns to visit. Most towns have dockage for little or no cost with electric and water, many have showers for boaters.
The tolls are about $50.00 for the whole season. The western end of the canal has a 10 MPH speed so a C-Dory does not use much gas.
The only bad news is that the Newark Diner has closed and been removed from Newark. Breakfast was $1.99 for two eggs, toast, pototos and coffee. There are other places to eat in Newark so you won't go hungry. Ask at the visitors center at the public dock and they will welcome you and direct you to many fine places in town. You won't go far for the laundry, it is free at the visitors center along with showers, free docking and electricy.
