Dual Fuel Tank Toggle Switch

Hi,

My fuel gage was not working. After several hours of troubleshooting I discovered that if I held the "spring loaded" toggle switch to one side the fuel gage worked. I was thinking that the switch is defective. Then on second thought I am wondering if this type of switch maintians "contact with one side or the other or if it makes contact when you toggle it to the right or left and then it returns to the middle. I think it should maintain contact after movement to left or right but just curios if anyone knows for sure.

You could have either type of toggle switch, depending on the year, model, and availability of parts at the time of assembly of your boat.

One type of switch is "Momentary On"-"Off"-"Momentary On", and the other is "On"-"Off"-"On".

If the switch sticks firmly "on" in a detent position on either side, it was the second type, but is defective now.

If it always returns to the middle on its own, it is of the first type.

It can be replaced by whichever type of switch you prefer.

A marine quality switch will be spark-proof, sealable from water intrusion with a rubber boot that fits over the toggle, and have marine quality wire leads. One bought at a hardware store or a Radio Shack type store will not. I'd recommend the former for safety's and longevity's sake.
