dinette conversion problem

I've got a question for anyone with a 22 cruiser with the sliding passenger seat. When I've tried to convert the dinette into a sleeper (or bench), I take the table top off, fold up the awkward leg, and set the table top between the seat boxes. There's a short (~1') metal post that goes into a flange on the floor, and props up the table in the middle.

On my boat, the post seems slightly too long, which causes the table top to not sit flat, and instead it's all wobbly and not confidence inspiring. The other thing is that the two seat cushions and two back cushions laid out on this platform are too big and they want to pop up.

So, what am I doing wrong here? Or does it just sound like I need to cut the support post and deal with the oversized (stock) cushions?
 
I also have the 2006. The popping up seat cushions don't bother me as they lie down flat with someone on them. After they sit squished for a time, the don't pop up quite so easily.

The silly support you are talking about was a really cheapo thing and C-Dory should be embarassed that they figured that would be a fine design feature. My dinette has a big ol' black leg that supports it during table UP time. I created my own shorter leg for that 2 inch support for when the table is in the berth position. It is a PVC pipe with two caps on the ends. I did have to sand the circumference of the caps just a bit to fit snuggly into the existing black pockets used with the factory table. I Junked the 1 inch thing altogether and cut a new one the right height out of a1 inch Lowes hardwood dowel. I put a 1 inch chair leg rubber cap on the bottom of that. Now, when the table is in the down position, it is fully supported and no peak in the middle. I don't know why that factory couldn't figure out that their metal pose was half inch or so too long.

With just the little skimpy metal post under the table, you will sit on the edge, getting in and out of the birth and probably crash through because of the lack of adequate support. So, fix something up that gets you at least two well spaced legs under that table. (Don't ask me how I know about the poor support of the single little metal leg!)

I did relocate the chrome or stainless pocket that was mounted to the bottom of the table to a better location for the new hardwood dowel support.
