Desolation Sound 2006

Pat,

Your enthusiam for life and boating is inspiring. I would like to have known you in my 20's. You have the energy of a 20 something now.

Any chance of luring you and Patty a couple of hours north to the Broughtons? We really enjoyed our time with you guys in Desolation Sound, but we loved the Broughtons as a destination. After your trip to Alaska, they'll be easy.

The Broughtons are 1-A new area for the group, 2-Spectacular, 3-As easy Desolation Sound to explore, 4-Less crowded, 5-Better fishing and shrimping with fewer restrictions, 6-A little further out on the edge.

If it sounds like I'm promoting this, well I am. It is unusual to see cruising boats under 35' in the area. It's a little different to cruise the area in a 22-25' boat, but for us that adds to the adventure. We hope that others will join us the first two weeks of September.

Oooh, Lyle -- first you get us charged up about West Coast Vancouver Island and now you're getting us fired up on the Broughtons -- "sure wish Mom had made twins."

Pat & Patty,
That sounds great. We look forward to some good times up there. We want to get shrimp pots this year. The locals say that there are a lot of shrimp in places.

El & Bill,
I guess all that I can say is that we've been enamored with Vancouver Island for 20 years. We've managed to spend most of our vacation time somewhere on or around the island. For real travelers like you with the time to do it, a month spent circumnavigating the island would be a real treat. Each sound on the west side is unique. We've explored Barkley, Clayoquot, Nootka and Kyuquot Sounds. There's nothing like the West Coast of Vancouver Island. We said that we'd always choose the West Coast over the Inside Passage. Then we spent the first week of September in the Broughtons. We had such a great time that we said we needed to go back this year for two weeks. Who knows, maybe we're going to end up in Seymour Inlet or further up the West side the following year.
