dead spot on 75 horse honda four stroke

I have a 2004 75 horse 4 stroke on my Cdory 22.

Only 100 hours but a dead spot at 1800-2000 RPM all but stalls me out. The problem started just months after purchase but was minor and easy to throttle past. I have tried seafoam in the gas and even sprayed alittle carb cleaner in the carbs.

Before I take it in for repairs ($80/hour), ...am I missing something here...maybe something else besides carb(s)? I watch my fuel closely and use nonalcohol gas. Our local Honda shop closed and I never did the 20 hour valve check. Outside of dead spot it runs like a champ.

We had a similar problem on our 2001 Nautica 175HP Mercury. Turned out that the float was getting stuck open and caused the engine to flood out. We used many cans of carb cleaner and slowly the problem went away.

It sounds like you might have the dreaded dead spot in the transition to the high speed jets. It can show up at different engines speeds depending on the prop mounted on the motor. When I bought my motors back in 2001 I asked the dealer if he had any problems with the 75 and he told me there was just one. If you don't run it regularly, the carb passages will start to gum up, and he recommended running it at least once every three weeks. A sticking float should show some problems at idle. Does your rig run fine at higher throttle settings? I sometimes have a hesitation problem around 2500 RPMs that SeaFoam will fix, but I have to run the engine close to the offending speed for maybe two or three hours to let the solvent really chew on the gunk.
