Sorry to say, Dana and I won't be making the Lake Shasta gathering. As much as we were looking forward to it, we've got a pretty good excuse...

As I've told many of you, our long term goal is to retire in Washington - specifically, we've always enjoyed the Port Angeles area, and not just because Jon and Cynthia are such great hosts and friends.

Dana and I spent the last week up here following the Sequim gathering, and have been looking at real estate pretty seriously. As of yesterday, we thought we found a nice spot, and were ready to make an offer on it. After a frustrating week of looking at many, many properties, this one looked pretty dang good. Then, just as we're ready to place an offer, we're told the place is already under contract...a minor detail the realtor we were working with didn't look into when first researching the property. Quite bummed and feeling defeated, we were ready to head back home.

Then...Cynthia pulled a rabbit out of her hat. The details aren't important - what is, is she found the most fantastic piece of property for us. Gorgeous views of the water and mountains, in an absolutely beautiful area. We're so excited, we won't be able to sleep tonight...we met up with the owner this evening, and will be meeting up with them tomorrow and hopefully closing the deal. It looks like we've found our Washington paradise...

Again - sorry to miss you folks, but we'll be up here in Washington for a while longer than we thought. Have a great time, and we'll hook up with you all next time.
 
Dang, ANOTHER couple of carpet baggin' Caifornians land in Warshington (learn how to pronounce it correctly, anyway). Seriously, congrats, and welcome to the Evergreen State!!!

I beg your pardon...the Dana G is one of the few native Washintonians who will be living here. She's a Kenowick woman.

So there's only one carpet bagger here, and I believe there's a clause somewhere that provides for a spousal exemption. :P
 
Bill and Kenwick gal -

I'll keep fingers crossed and hope the deal happens! Love PA, and my family there since before WA was a state. The old white-haired one was born just down the street from Jon and Cynthia. It's exciting that you two lovely folks will be neighbors!!

Gotta work out some priorities though. Cynthia catches All the fish, Jon smokes 'em -- what's your role? Can't just nerd all day...

That's great, that is neat country up there. You say Dana is a Kenowick woman, is she any relation to the Kenowick man ? :)

This is exactly the reason we never go to the Squim gathering, people go up there and end up spending large chunks O dough...boats...trucks....real estate....we just can't afford to make that trip.
 
Bill- You won't be too much out of sorts mixed up in PA with all the "locals". When we were up there for the 1995 Lido (sailboat) Nationals, many of the people (in Sequim at least) were equity retirees from San Diego or the Bay Area living in "spec" houses out in the surrounding countryside or on golf courses.

On the other hand, get rid of those "California" plates, get rid of the tan, and buy some Pendelton shirts to wear with your jeans, etc. In about 15 years they'll think you're one of them! Congradulations. Joe.
 
That's pretty cool you guys. Congratulations, it's been a long time coming. Are you going to quit your jobs and move on up? I'm not sure about available work but you could open up a latte stand. I hear they're a real money maker and not much competition in Washington.

How about posting a few pictures somewhere on the site?

Bill and Dana, thank you for your kind thoughts. Much appreciated today.

Congratulations! I knew that when you walked out of Swains with that plaid shirt and Levis, it was a done deal. Now, you have to take the levis out back and place the pant legs on a stump. Borrow an ax from Jon and give a good wack across the legs a good 6 inches higher than your normal inseam length. Tie them to the back of THE VAN and drag them up to Joyce and back. Now you have a real pair of northwest washington jeans. I can get away with saying this because my father and grandfather were loggers up there on the Peninsula. Oh, and did I mention snoose? :crook Just kidding. I have my fingers crossed hoping it all comes together. I want to hear all about it as soon as you sign on the dotted line.
 
Robbi, that's some funny stuff. :lol: I can relate to that, I lived in Joyce for about 10 years, I once owned a funny pair or two of those jeans, chewed snuff (not anymore), walked around in a pair of romeo's "loggin slippers" and wore a stihl ball cap. Now, Cynthia tries to dress me up in that Lands End and LL Bean stuff, yuk. :shock:

I think it's going to be kind of hard to get Bill in a pair of those pants and red suspenders, but you never know.

Now I'm real curious about what your Dad and Grandfather's names are.
 
Jon, my grandfather and his brother were "gypo" loggers that moved all over the peninsula from the late 1800's to about 1930. They were John and Fred Krumm. My dad, as a young boy of 11 or 12, was a whistle punk and chewed like the men. A habit that he never gave up. They got out when they lost all of their money about the time of the depression. I think the closest they got to PA was a camp they worked in the 20's north and west of the top of Hood Canal. Robbi

To the rest of you who have commented.......you're crackin' me up :xlol ....you now have me visualizing Bill with his raggedy high top jeans, suspenders, hickory shirt, romeos, a bulge of Copenhagen in his jaw, his Stihl cap, and his Stihl saw with 48" bar resting on his shoulders.....yep, you're sure lookin' good........Bill "Bunyan"! :wink

You think that's a transformation just wait till that house full of mild mannered California house pets of theirs turns into a pack of snarling bear chasing hounds that bite the sidewalls right out of your C-Dory trailers when you show up in their driveway.
 
Hey Bill, the auto program at the school gets a bunch of junk cars donated to them, do you want me to see about saving some of the bigger, uglier cars for your future landscaping needs? You'll need at least seven or eight junkers in the yard to blend in
 
Welcome to the Pacific Northwest. Seems like a good move since you seem to be up here more than down there. The brand of beer you have in your pocket will have to change however.
