Incidentally, if thought continues to be given to the Cuba thread I'd like to be included in the loop.

I'll keep the Cuba thread going, for sure.

Just to update those interested in learning about cruising in Cuban waters, Cuba still is very much on my agenda, possibly for next winter. First, I need to figure out how to get there, thus, my participation in the current discussion under Atlantic ICW.

I'll be back to push along the Cuba thread in due course. In the meantime, here's a site operated by Peter Swanson that has much information:

Georgs, I just read that story - it sucks large kiwi eggs mate! What an unbelievable nightmare. The one thing I believe (although he doesn't explicity call out that he was single-handedly manning his vessel - I assume he was), is that I would not under any circumstances now, or if embargos are lifted, enter Cuba territorial waters without additional crew, and other vessels and members. Wow, this poor fella's story was gut wrenching.

Thanks for sharing that link, Georgs, excellent! I'll comment that we stayed only at Marina Hemingway, found the various officials we encountered to be friendly and courteous, pleased to see Americans. The only request for "baksheesh" came from the health inspector, a doctor, who cornered my crew in the forward cabin and asked for $5. (He got it, the wisdom of this debatable but what the hell.)
