cost of a trailer for cd22

I am looking at buying a CD22 Cruiser. The guy selling the boat does not have the title for the trailer. From what I found out so far it is very difficult to title a used trailer in VA without the title from the previous owner.

Does anyone have any idea of the approximate price of a trailer for a CD22?

If I have to end up junking the trailer the boat is on now because of the title, perhaps I can get the boat price reduced to cover buying a new trailer.

Thanks.

Idaho and Utah are not full of trailer and vehicle thieves, so maybe we have a different issue here. But, if a seller certifies that the trailer is his and a cop investigates the trailer vin and now problems show up, BLAM! you get a new title. Takes about 30 minutes at the court house.

I suspect that the cost of doing a similar thing in your part of the country will be a tiny fraction of the cost of a new trailer.

Yes, get a discount on the deal, but check with the local gastapo and see if it isn't pretty easy to get the trailer titled.

If the seller just lost the title, in most states he can fill out an "affidavit in lieu of lost title" form. Then when you register the boat and trailer, the new title will mailed with your name. If the trailer never had a title, then its a bigger problem. A person could find a trailer in bad shape with a usable tongue and serial number and just frankenstein them together for a title?

I looked at ordering a brand new galvanized trailer for a 22' boat and I was quoted close to $3,000 all said and done. I ended up finding a slightly used one off of craigslist for $1100. Good luck!

Is the seller in a state that titles (that size and type of) trailer or not? I ask because if the trailer comes from a state that does not normally title it, and you go to title it in your state that does require a title, there is not normally a problem. The states are able to look up each other's rules (as can a buyer).

My 22 came with a trailer that was not titled, but that's because the state it came from does not title trailers of that size. I was required to have the piece of paper they do use (as I remember it it was some sort of registration slip) and then I was issued a title (because my registering state does title that size trailer).

Don't know if that's your situation, but figured id mention it just in case. There are quite a few variations between states, so its good to research to be sure.

He is supposed to title the boat in his state. Since he didn't have the title he couldn't do that. He says he borrows a plate from a friend for the trailer when he wants to trailer the boat.

I checked a place were I got the trailer for my current boat. The estimate I got was $2200 (in MD).

Having to title a trailer without a current title in California is easy. Takes ( or at least it did when I left) about 10 mins. titling one in the state of Washington is a royal and expensive pain in the ass. I have a small trailer I bought for $100. It was going to cost $300-$500 to title and safety inspect the dam thing?? I just use the plate off the big trailer when I need to use it, don't tell my wife or mark.
