Cockpit Storage 16' Angler

I've been searching the archives looking to see if anyone has ever made cut outs in the cockpit side panels of the 16 for storage compartments. If so, are there any pictures and what was used for the box behind the cutouts? Has anyone shown any concern about taking out the Styrofoam?

I haven't done it in the cockpit yet but I did take it out of the bow. If I go over those two chunks of styrofoam aren't going to do much for the situation. I have been thinking about a couple boxes in the cockpit. Maybe one for tackle and one for small tools. That would be real handy. Maybe even one for the fire extinguisher.

lloyds,
I took out the Styrofoam block in the bow when I installed an anchor rode locker. :wink I notice that the new 16' has a storage shelf under the motor well, it must have eliminated that foam block as well. :smileo I think my next project is going to be a couple of side storage compartments at least long enough for a knocked down fishing pole. :smiled Jack

After doing some measuring. It looks like an open compartment 4.5 ft. long with an opening 4" high and approx 5" deep could be installed on each side, leaving the outboard foam block in place. If the compartment were 6" deep that would allow about a 2" lip to keep things from rolling out of it. :smilep More than enough room for a two-piece rod, or gaff, etc. Only thing missing would be edge trim. Anyone know where to get that black "Edge Trim" C-Dory uses? :smiled Jack

The trim is available in white or black and two different thicknesses at WM. I am sure you can find it for less elsewhere. WM is pretty proud of their prices. On the other hand they have a lot of boat stuff right there on the shelves.

Thanks Dave, :thup
Like you say, if WM has it...It's probably 30% less on line. :sad We'll wave when we go by on our way out to Stuart on the 30th. :smiled Jack

I just stopped by Lowe's to look around and found some 6" wide plastic rain gutter. :smile I'm thinking a section of it could be glued behind a cut-out in the side panel as a shelf. :smileo It even has a 90 degree lip on one side to attach it and at $6.00 for a 10 foot section.... :smilep I'll have to pick one up next time in town as I was driving the little car. :smiled Jack
