Cheap Fishfinder

I am looking for a cheap fishfinder to put on an 18' aluminum boat I'm taking to Baja. Any ideas on a cheap but workable fishfinder, I'm trying to keep this project as cheap as possible. I might even consider a used one if someone is upgrading. Thanks
 
I have 2 of the Humminbird 525 units, got them at wally world for under $100. Basic units, but they do a good job.
 
Snal, how deep do you use them? Can you still contact bottom at 5-10mph?
 
I can't remember what depth they'll read, but the max depth on our home lake is 120'. I have one on a kayak, and one on a pontoon...it'll read fine up to about 20mph (transducer is about 1' underwater, and just below the pontoon).
We have an older HB Wide Vision on our CD...it also reads fine up to about 20mph...goes in and out above that speed.
The kayak has a transom mount transducer installed as a thru-hull, epoxied in place...it'll read as fast as I can paddle. :xlol
 
Don't forget eBay. I bought a new 2nd E-80 display unit for about half the new price. So if you watch the auctions, particularly for items without high reserves or buy-it-nows you can get a good deal on a more expensive unit than you might otherwise get. I would also recommend using a sniping service -- I use Auction Sniper.
 
How about a fishing buddy? It clamps on and off so easy to remove and bring in at night. I even have a used one I would part with. michael
 
The current Harbor Freight Tools catalog has a portable fish finder for $50...why don't you get it and tell us all how it works!
