C-80 system GPS prob

Just got the boat wet here last weekend for the first time in a few months & my GPS is reading "no fix" . Could the antenna have gotten out of whack ya think? Worked fine all year til now. Also, while I was futzing around trying to figure why the chart plotter wasnt working correctly (because of GPS issue as I eventually figured out) I reset to factory & now the default chart it brings up is somewhere around Biscayne Bay, FL!

To top it off, the radar icon is active on the screen and appears to be working but the display doesn't sweep..

Have you tried running it for awhile? I think the most likely thing that happened was that the almanac on the unit was reset while having it down for so long. If that happens then it typically takes an unusually long time to acquire sats. If you haven't already, try leaving it on for at least 30min to see if it is just trying to figure out where it is again.

dumb question but being it reset to florida, is it in demo mode, the reason I ask is that florida is the demo mode map on most raymarine areas.

Another thing to check are the plugs in the back of the C-80. The GPS problem you see can be due to the GPS plug not being seated in the socket. Mine looks that way when I run it off of a power supply in the house without the GPS antenna. The radar may be on "standby" which means it is powered up but not scanning. You may need to start it scanning with the soft keys. It's also possible that the radar plug is not in and locked. I have had that happen too. There are lots of pins on that plug! The locking rings should always be turned to "lock"

Good luck

I had the same problem with the radar plug after the dome got stolen. if feels like the plug is in but its not you really have to get it in and twisted to lock for it to be good to go.

I agree it's in Demo mode. I have put mine in demo mode and it shows the Miami area. The only thing is it doesn't go into that mode when you bring it up from reset (or mine didn't) I just put it in demo mode to see what it was. Good luck and have a great year on the water. I have been playing around with a lot of things on my Raymarine and just reset it the last time on the boat. I was trying to get SOG off GPS instead of off the wheel speed. Couldn't find it in the directions and played with it for hours before I just decided to push that magic button and go from the beginning. I think I found it. The window reads COG with SOG under it. I hope I'm not asking for advice the next time I'm out because I could not get a GPS reading after that. I just thought it was because I was under a covered slip. I'm determined to figure that thing out.

Check the voltage on your house battery. THe first thing to go nuts on my boat when the house battery gets low is the c-80 system. It seems to be very picky. Just a thought.

Well no reason for advice. The Gps did fine as soon as I got it out from under the covered slip today. It's funny it always works fine there but the signal must not be strong enough to bring it up from start. Beautiful weather and water today.
How did you do Eric? What did your problem end up being?
