90 HP Honda power tilt

Jack in Alaska

New member
My boat is covered and put to bed for the winter. Today I walked around the back to see how the tarp was holding in a 30 mph wind and saw a small (4" dia. ) puddle of oil on the ground under the power tilt. It appears to be seeping out of one of the ram seals . Does it need a OB doctor or is there a home remedy that I can do??? I am somewhat mechanical. I installed the motor myself 9 yrs. ago.
This is the 1st problem in 9 yrs. and 950 hrs. with this engine
Thanks for any input.

Jack, I've got a 40HP Honda carcass, without the lower unit, has a blown power head and I've already shipped the carbs and intake manifold to someone in Alaska. It was one of Bill and El's engines (Halcyon) that I've made available for parts to C-Brats. If you think any of the power trim/tilt parts will fit, let me know and they're yours for the shipping costs.

Charlie,
Thanks for the response and the generous offer. I looked again today and there was no more oil dripping. I examined all 3 rams carefully and saw nothing.
I also contacted a local OB repair shop. He said that fixing leaks on those was very easy and he could do it. I will leave it sit all winter and make a plan in early spring.
Thanks again.
