While the wider beam would make for improved room all around, it would proportionately shorten the boat. When they came up with the CD-19, the proportionately shorter and wider boat porpoised (pitched) up and down so much that trim tabs had to be added as a standard feature. Widening the 22 would probably do the same thing.
It would require more power and sit higher on the trailer over the wheels. Might actually have less of a tendency to want to broach in a following sea.
Most of us think the CD-22 is a great solution to all the traditional forced compromises and revere it's design as a classic and would view any major changes with skepticism. Still, progress is made through changes and experimentation! Joe.
