15th Annual Catalina Off-Shore Adventure

A big thanks to all who came this year to the 15th Annual Catalina Offshore Adventure. This included John & Robbin, Steve & Carmen et. al., Floyd & Eiko, Tony & Diane, Heinz & Diane, David & Zack, et. al.

Wow did the week go fast. I was just starting to relax by Friday and then we had to go home. Fishing was marginal this year with no fish fry, but I did enjoy swimming around the string line area in the 75 degree clear waters and having my annual buffalo milk at the Galley.

For the 15 years I have been going, very little has changed at Isthmus Cove. For the days and time of the year that we go, there seems to be no more people now than there was more than a decade ago. The weather this year was very nice and a cool change from the Valley heat.

The only difference that I can detect is that prices have gone up some at the West End Galley, Harbor Reef Restaurant, and General Store; but for me it is still a bargain to be in Paradise just 30 miles from Los Angeles. That San Pedro Channel really keeps the crowds away from the West End of Catalina Island.

As Heinz said, it is not the destination but the people that make this venue so great. We were lucky to make it back over the Grapevine and safely home to Sacramento with no problems. The pot holes on Interstate 5 are now absolutely terrible and they are very hard on our trailer equipment.

It is a lot of work for us old timers in Northern California to pull off the Two Harbors trip, but God willing, we hope to be back next year, same time and place.

Eiko and I had a wonderful time seeing everyone once again. Thank you Jim and Kathy for making this happen, it is just such a great experience.

I was able to finish the video before we are off on our next Adventure, the San Juan Islands, I hope everyone enjoys!

Another great job on your video. Almost like I went two times on the trip. You have some good video and camera shots and did a nice presentation. I like the end!

We really missed you and Susan at Catalina. We can feel your pain. Take it slow and easy on your recovery. We know you can bounce back.

Hello All,
Looks like all of you had a great time! Jim and Kath sounds like you two did yet another fantastic job of herding cats (otherwise known as CBrats). Laurie and I really wanted to make this year but business obligations unfortunately conflicted. Joel glad you are on the mend. Floyd your YOUTube video only emphasized why we would have loved to hang out with some of past friends and meet some new ones. Hope to meet up with some of you maybe in the Spring or who knows at Catalina next year.

I finally remembered where I broke my back..... Remember when we were in Petaluma and walking home from dinner and those dark broken sidewalks...(maybe 3 blocks from the Castle) I fell hard on my side and broke off a goodly chunk of a verdebre....hurt but I hobbled home in pain...

I had a really hard time in surgery and you folks helped so much with your kind words they kept me going....what a close group of friends.

Day 8 and I am able to walk about 1/2 block and back....fingers are starting to do the things I want and last night for the first time I was able to sleep all night...

I owe you all a great deal of thanks and love....

Joel
