We had a big gale last night with rain and got me thinking BIG Time about summer. The last week or so I've been looking at the calender and the Waggoner cruising guide for a gathering spot.

Early days right now but I'm putting one on! Thinking so far the 6th 7th and 8th of August to get us past the long weekend in BC and maybe hold it at Montague on Galiano or Poets Cove on South Pender. Both great spots with lots to do and easy access across from the San Juans. How do these places sound, or anyone with another idea?

I'll turn the temps down some for this year it was a tad warm last summer.
Start your planning lets get together! :smiled

Really glad you're up for hosting another gathering. The dates sound good. If you ask Tyboo or DaNag they'll set up a signup sheet as soon as you settle on a location. Montague and Poet's Cove are both nice. Personally we like Sidney and Genoa Bay as well. And...last year we stopped at Port Browning and were pleasantly surprised after hearing some less than stellar comments from years gone by. Where ever you have the gathering we'll be there and look forward to it.

Thanks very much.

We missed the Naniamo one last year and missed a great gathering :( so, in keeping with our New Year's resolution to improve ourselves by making good habits, we are going to try making a habit of attending CBGT's :hot :rose Want to be there and will do our best.

I vote for Montague with Poet's Cove a distant second. PC is good for checking in with HM Customs and a nice meal at the resort but not much else -- IMHO.

Hi Warren, I'm leaning toward Montague as there is lots of room and a great park, thanks for you input.
I'm waiting a day or so to get some info back from a few places. George

So I'm going to pick Montague for a gathering in August. The 6th 7th and 8th. Lots of room to anchor or tie up. I'll get more info soon. Start to make your plans to come to the Southern Gulf Islands for a visit.

The world famous..(infamous?) Hummingbird pub is an interesting bus ride away.
Lots of trails to walk in the park and easy access to the San Juans.
More soon. George

Hi Sarge, I have a bit more info. Marilyn at the marina at Montague got back to me. They had no power for a few days after the big gale.
They have space for about 20 boats to reserve at $1.08 a foot plus tax, 15 amp power is $4.65 a day and 30 amp is $5.65 a day. There is a nice restaurant on site and a sall French restaurant nearby as well as the pub up the hill with the bus that stops at the marina.
For a pot luck we can meet at the Provincial park across the way.
I know it's real early but if you want a reserved spot give Marilyn an email at marilyn@montagueharbour.com and let her know it is for the C Dory gathering for August 6,7,8 by George Hone. I'll have a spot on the dock as cruise director but many folks will want to anchor out. It's a really well protected anchorage and there are bouys nearby.
More soon, George

and if i am really lucky...by then we will have wont the lottery and teh susan e will be the tender for the BIG boat and i will have my own baker boat in montague.... dream dream keep on dreamin

Warren,

Susan is probably refering to the Bakery Boat that frequents montague in the Summer. It has great breads, pies and pastries.

George,

Montague is a great choice for the BC CBGT! A wonderful anchorage, good shoreside attractions and, as always, those wild and wacky C-Brats. We might even see the Wild Blue Crew! See you there.

Hi Roger, getting thru winter ok? I'm looking forward to a great gathering with all the C-Brats. Glad you're coming up. Montague is a nice spot, George

I was just talking with the folks at BC Parks across from the marina, inquiring about a place to hold the potluck Saturday night. We can reserve a place with picnic tables, bench and water/ sink prep area for $50 for all afternoon and evening on the 7th. I'm thinking that's well worth it we can pass the hat to cover it perhaps. I'm penciled in at the moment for this space they don't actually reserve until March 1 but the early bird... you know! It will give us a good spot to hang out in the afternoon if we want and reserved space for our dinner. Being a weekend in August a good idea.
There's lots to see and do in this Park so we will have a ton of fun, more soon, see you Brats George

George,

That sounds like a good spot, especially if we can get a fire going. The evenings can be a little nippy at times. There shoud be enough for that in the travelling kitty even before passing the hat.

As to getting through Winter, What Winter? Gotta love that El Nino!
