    cuddy hach leak

I rebedded my foredeck hatch in 2007, and it hasn't leaked since. Here's my write-up: http://www.navagear.com/2007/11/04/foredeck-hatch-rebedding/

Johnson (Suzuki) 90: Another midsection corrosion failure

But I still want to make it to Friday Harbor. Remember: The engine runs JUST FINE despite this exhaust leak. Still, I'm not thrilled about continuing the soot and heat damage. So I MIGHT AS WELL patch it up. Here's the hole after I cleaned it up. Yeah, it ain't all that clean. Don't bug me...

Johnson (Suzuki) 90: Another midsection corrosion failure

OK...I'm going to try and do this myself. It's just bolts...there are no tricky electrical, plumbing, or valve connections to make here. The tricky part is holding the engine up while I've got the midsection disassembled. Anybody want to loan me a shop crane? As for parts, I found the Oil Pan...

Johnson (Suzuki) 90: Another midsection corrosion failure

Yeah, and whoever posted that used my photograph of the corroded Engine Holder casting! Here is my photo in its original setting: http://www.navagear.com/2007/11/01/my-johnsons-fixed/ Credit would have been nice. And just to clarify, this is NOT the problem I'm posting about now. I've got new...

    Battery Question

Yeah, I've done a bit of internet research since I posted that, and the Diehard Platinum seems like a really competitive choice, all told. Automotive model appears to be exactly the same (minus threaded posts), is $30 cheaper, and has 4 year warranty instead of 3.

    Battery Question

I missed this discussion the first time around, but I'm sure interested now. One of my Optima blue-tops won't take a charge! And boo-hoo-hoo, it's only 9 years old! :) Sounds like I've gotten good life out of these batteries, from what folks have said above. The other one's still going, so I...

Johnson (Suzuki) 90: Another midsection corrosion failure

I had that problem, too! That's the "Engine Holder" problem from 2007 that I referenced above. This new "Oil Pan" problem may or may not be caused by "dissimilar metals" galvanic corrosion.

Johnson (Suzuki) 90: Another midsection corrosion failure

Confirmed by running the engine with the garden hose and the "ears". Water (and, therefore, exhaust) leaks out of this hole. Decided that maybe I could patch it with some JB Weld. I can't hardly ruin a piece that already needs replacing, after all! Very low risk, I'm thinking. First...

Johnson (Suzuki) 90: Another midsection corrosion failure

Anybody remember WAY back in 2007 when I had this problem? http://www.c-brats.com/viewtopic.php?p=84415&sid=a98d5144774072575dc187f2796fb151 Documented the ultimate solution at Navagear, as well: http://www.navagear.com/2007/11/01/my-johnsons-fixed/ In a nutshell, I had corrosion of the Engine...

Engine lubricants: How old is too old?

Excellent...thanks! Looks like I'm OK this year, and I'll buy new next year.

Engine lubricants: How old is too old?

I've got some fluids I would like to use for this spring's maintenance. The issue: I don't do my own maintenance every single year, so some of the lubricants I have on hand are 4 or 5 years old. Do they degrade? Can I still use them? Here's what I'm intending to use: Power trim/steering fluid...

    05/18 - 05/19 - Friday Harbor Gathering

Let me be clear: I am ENCOURAGING a trip through Deception Pass. It's perfectly pleasant 95+% of the time. But I didn't want to disregard the <5% of the time it can be downright scary out there, in which case you want to TURN RIGHT and KEEP GOING. Easy! :-)
