Sounds great. If this is your first autopilot, keep in mind the need to keep a lookout for floating objects and boat traffic. It's easy to just let the autopilot handle it for a half minute or more, but that's a very long time to go without looking. Things sneak up on you!

The support is hinged, and there is a clip to hold it flat on the deck when not in use. It sits between the forward deck hatch and the windshield.

The forward folding masts have a support that comes up just in front of the windshield. Their shrouds have alternate attachment points on the forward part of the cabin top to prevent swaying side to side.

Yes, I like the forward folding version better. We just got a blue 21 at the dealership, and it has one of the remaining side-folding masts. I don't like the folding as well, and you do end up a bit taller. Also, the spotlight isn't part of the whole folding thing, as it is with the new mast...

Word from Ranger is that they are going to the forward-folding mast as standard on the 21 and 25, but a few more boats will be released with the old style side-folding mast.
