Ranger Tug 21ec - My Observation!

The only inconsistencies is your lack of ability to accept the fact that every single point I mentioned about both the R21 and the Mainship is100% factual. Ok you're right, I Imagined that there is only around 6-8 inches to sneak by the seat - I was wrong about my knees jammed up on the wheel...

Ranger Tug 21ec - My Observation!

You guys can beat on me all you want – but that does not change one thing on the R21. I accept the fact that no boat is perfect. The problem with the 21 is Ranger tried to make it something it’s not, and crammed too much in it’s small cabin with a too narrow beam – they need to forget cooking...

Ranger Tug 21ec - My Observation!

Just for your information Captain - I've had all three Mainship's on Smith Mountain Lake! Any other thoughts?

Ranger Tug 21ec - My Observation!

Ok, now your saying a Mainship is not a Trawler right ? That explains everything!

Ranger Tug 21ec - My Observation!

I hate to differ with you but there are thousands and thousands of Cummins with turbos' which idle 90% of the time for years and years with no sign of problems both in the marine industry and for public service i.e. power, utility, ambulances etc.

Ranger Tug 21ec - My Observation!

By the way John thanks for confirming my point about weather with your image below - using your own words: "Trying to beat the storms to La Conner" Are you doing more than 8 mph trying to outrun those storms? By the way, how much fuel do those dual Honda's burn per hour?

Ranger Tug 21ec - My Observation!

John - You need to read the post - no one is comparing the R21 to a Mainship because you can't - there is no comparison. I was just bring up the fact that a 15,000 pound boat could do 8 mph with the same economy of the R21.

Ranger Tug 21ec - My Observation!

Ok, it’s clear to see that you guys are only going to look at it your way! Hey, I’m 60+ years old, I’m not in the shrimp business or pulling traps, I wanted the boat for enjoyment and COMFORT. If I was 40 years old again, I might be able to put up with it, but I’m not. I’m not going to try to...

Ranger Tug 21ec - My Observation!

Believe me - while I was in the cabin the other people looking, walked around the boat or sat in the stern. Regarding the economy, if you guys do the math - due to the slow speed, the R21 is not really any more economical than boats considerable larger. My Mainship 30 had a 300 hp Yanmar and...

Ranger Tug 21ec - My Observation!

It's funny you mentioned this but everyone that climbed aboard the 21 while I was there had the same exact comments . . . The cabin is too cramped, I don't think I could live with the 10 knots, and the price was too high.

Ranger Tug 21ec - My Observation!

When considering the price of the boat with a few options is 60K + and the thruster is only a $2500 option - their cost must be 50% of that. Ranger would be ahead of the game if they just made it standard equipment. Regarding the slow speed - as I mentioned, it severely limits your activities...

Ranger Tug 21ec - My Observation!

My mistake - I meant to say 7'8" on the beam (another foot). Both my Mainship 30 & 34 would cruise 8 knots at a high idle, that's were i ran most of the time. While I could have lived with the slow speed - one of the main problems is the cabin, Ranger has totally screwed that up. The...

Ranger Tug 21ec - My Observation!

I went to the Norfolk boat show to tie-up a deal on the Ranger 21ec but after spending around 45 minutes in the boat, I decided to pass up the opportunity to own one of these little tugs – here’s a few reasons: 1) Small Cabin - The cabin is too small for anyone – I seldom go out by myself and...

A few Questions For you Experts!

    1) I'm sure this has been asked a thousand times but what is the average speed of the Ranger 21 ec with the 29 hp Yanmar. Dealers tell me as high as 13-15 mph specs show 10-12 mph. I live on a lake and our closest place to eat is almost 10 miles which would be 2 hours of travel. The speed has...

    Full Canvas or Not

Getting pretty serious about a new 21ec and though I would get you thoughts on the full canvas or just binimi - it seems that during the winter the ful canvas might be a bit chilly?
