The boats are rafted up, generally based on the item they are selling. Venders come by to sell them meals.
We visited the floating market in Can Tho. This is a "wholesale" market with the anchored large vessels selling to smaller vessels that will distribute the wares along the little man-made canals on the Mekong.
This is a boat loaded with gravel. The fore deck and side deck is awash with water right up to the coaming around the hold. The fenders (tires) are actually flipped up on to the deck, probably to reduce drag. This type of loading was the norm. Hope the wind doesn't come up. On the plus side, the eyes on the bow are now looking for underwater obstructions.
Quan Yin is especially popular with sailors and fishermen. She is generally accompanied by two helpers; one that can see 1,000 miles and one that can hear 1,000 miles. That helps keep sailors out of trouble. A statue of her across the harbor from Danang is 229 feet tall, but that only makes it the fourth tallest in the world.
Then this old lady came out and yelled at me. This is actually my bad photo of Quan Yin, a female iteration (bodhisattva) of the Buddha in the National Museum in Hanoi. She is flanked by her two little helpers.
