The big red rig, 1 ton diesel, perfect for the R25 Tug but overkill for a CD 25 but decent towing mileage (between 12 and 16 depending on the terrain) and will crest any pass at the speed limit (900 ft lbs of torque)and only need the exaust brake all the way down.(heavier duty trucks may have the same engine power as lighter dutys but have WAY more powerful brakes, and on this truck I have seen up to 90hp of exaust brake hold back and will hold us to under 60mph on the steepest downgrades with the CD25) also only the 1 ton comes with the Aisin trans that won't overheat when towing.

This 23 foot high antenna is for the SSB/Ham radio transceiver(see photo nearby), the top 2 sections are dismounted when traveling at speed. There are other options but for me this is the tried and true antenna solution and is the one we had on our Ranger Tug.

This hot little Icom 706 MK III G transmits at 100 watts on any ham, ssb marine and many other frequencies including VHF. It also has great AM reception and is so much more compact than our previous 802.

We just put on a Rocna Vulcan 25 in place of our old roll bar Rocna 22 the shorter shank pulls up tight on the roller and like the old Spade we loved on our big sailboat it has a weighted tip and if is anything like the Spade it will have a neck snapping set. We also changed over the gypsy to take the 50' of 5/16 g4 chain and 200' of 9/16 8 braid nylon off the Ranger Tug, we have seen gusts at times in the Sea of Cortez in the 85 mph range and one night in Lake Mead when the wind never dropped below 35-45 knots, in a small cove 15 feet off the lee shore rocks. We have seen a good sized sailboat go on the rocks behind us so we are happy to have always been "over anchored " Our Spade was yellow and easy to see on the bottom, always copy that now.
