The connectors failed. I'll need to photograph the new ones and we'll see how they work. Basically, they are the white plastic rectangle connectors bought from the aircraft wiring place lots of people on this site recommend. I'm hoping that since they are aircraft quality, the metal is good and won't corrode. The ones in these photos apparently corroded, although it is not obvious. The solder job was fine. Bad connectors.

The Lowrance and the Icom are pretty happy together. The Lowrance causes a slight amount of interference on the VHF on certain channels. I've loaded all the wires with ferritte cores, with the exception of the VHF antenna cable. I think the interference is coming out of the Lowrance display anyhow. You can block some of it with your hand or a sheet of metal. The Lowrance is an LMS-337C DF and the Icom is an M422.

This one looks a little better. The negative solder joint is not cold...there is some nice solder that you can't see in the photo. UPDATE: These connectors ended up totally failing. I would not use them. The signal from the GPS was intermittent a high percentage of the time. I've replaced this with different connectors. Need to update this area. -- Mike
Not the prettiest solder job, but this is much smaller than it looks in the photo.
The manual for the Icom 422 makes no mention of the wires for the NMEA in, out and speakers being coaxial. They are. The negative is carried in the outer braid. These are small wires. That center wire is hard to strip.
