Shoved the front compartment full of foam and installed a pink foam bulkhead to hold it. I used some filler foam till the forward compartment was full. Note the 6" access I cut.

Above Gas Tank Access : under cut the panel balsa for the edge trim. I sealed the balsa with West system epoxy thinned with tolulene for penetration
Finished project took about 8 hours total. The hatch is from West Marine Bomar 10X20 $113
Painted with West Marine Starbrite and bedded the hatch with 4200.I figure the hatches will hold air as floatation for a while.

Cut it out with a hand saw then sanded with an orbital palm sander
