Manatee befriended us while anchored at end of old cement plant canal, ICW mm 809. Manatee moved a few feet away and went to sleep with back above water. A 10' gator swam to manatee, placed it's head on manatee's back and laid like that for a few minutes before swimming over to us to beg for food.

Ladies Isl swing bridge, Beaufort, SC. As a 5 yr old, living in Beauford when my father was stationed at Paris Isl Marine Base during WWII as a Navy dentist, I would jump on my tricycle and quickly ride the 2 blocks to the river bank each time I heard a boat sound it's whistle for the bridge to open, and dream of a day when I would be cruising up the river.
