Note: we have installed a permenant shim as described previously to protect the deck gelcoat from the anchor shank. The BRM-2 Bow Roller would otherwise be unsuitable for use with this anchor without the shim.

Close up of 14# Delta anchor. It has 25' 1/4" HT chain and 200' of 1/2" Anchor line. On June 14-15, we used this arrangement for the first time. It sets easily by hand, and it releases easy by hand. It held fast in the 10-foot muddy river bottom, with winds around 5 knots, and large power cruisers passing by. This confirms that did not need a windlass for new England, where the waters are shallow (as opposed to the PNW, where a windlass is desireable.) REVISION: We no longer use the 14 pound anchor, because it does not hold in silt. We now use a 22 pound Lewmar Delta, which I think would benefit greatly from a windlass.
