And then, I looked to my right. Palouse Falls. If you follow the dark talus slope above the falls to the left, where the edge forms a right angle, you can see two light objects right at the bottom of the slope. That is two people who walked out the trail to the falls. That give a sense of size.

Depths were 10 feet and required some reading of the river to determine where the channel might be. You can see on the chart plotter that I am beyond the blue "navigable waters" shown on the chart. I continued on 3/4 of a mile.

The entrance to the Palouse canyon. The NOAA chart showed depths of 40 feet. Local knowledge was required to find the channel, which is now only several feet deep because of siltation since the last survey. My lowest reading was 1.8 feet when entering the river channel.

The Lyons Ferry (aka Snake River) highway bridge. The bridge was originally used to cross the Columbia at Vantage, but was dismantled and recycled for use at Lyons Ferry.
