We probably would be, missed it last year. We might head up there this weekend just to get a boating fix. Pretty close compared to puget sound. |

I'd be interested too. I love Cathlamet and would like an excuse to try for some salmon or sturgeon there, especially with local input. The second half of August wouldn't work as that is peak salmon time at home. C.W. _________________ "The West is the Best... Just get here and we'll do the rest." Jim Morrison |

It was a fine weekend in April that early C-Brat explorers stopped to feast and drink (and watch Jim try to fish his dropped keys out of the drink) on the beautifull banks of the Elocoman slough. I think to honor this rich history some weekend in April would be in order.
August wouldn't work for me either as I'll be slaving away in AK |

I need to get my calendar out. We drove by Cathlamet last summer and now that I know where it is, we might have to add it to our list. _________________ Peter & Caryn

Depending on the dates chosen, we'd love to go to that gathering again ... great company, great fun and a nice place!

Hey folks, pencil in the weekend of the 12th in April. I've put in a request for good weather, hopefully there will be a springer season below the I5 bridge and it will still be open.
If the conditions are right, maybe we can make a run out to the ocean and take a look around |

I just went to a Columbia River Advisory Group meeting last night. This is supposed to be a fantastic year for Columbia River spring chinook.... but the bad news is that there are very few Willamette River spring chinook supposed to come back and to protect those, they are likely to close the Columbia to retention of salmon below I-5 in Portland on March 31. I argued hard for another week into April, to include switching to a one fish bag limit instead of 2, but we'll see. I strongly doubt it will be open until the 12th of April. We have another meeting on Feb. 12th and by then we'll also know what the allocation % will be, which could get us (sportsfishermen as opposed to comercial) a few more days// a few more allowed impacts on those Willamette fish. There is always sturgeon too. I'll mark that weekend too and hope to attend, but might be seduced into going upstream of I-5 after the tastiest salmon ever made. C.W. |

Where is this place? I might be interested if it's a long ways from work. Any chance of anyone having some spare smelt? I got a special bottle of Stone Wolf for M if there's a chance of a smeltsickile. _________________ TyBoo Mike

Yes, well, ahem...without Larry or Lyle to take care of me, not sure how I would fare...Oscar and I surely did enjoy our day on the Helen O in (2004?) - and we sure as heck enjoyed eating those two springers! _________________

Mike- M likes that wine fer sure, don't know about the smelt, I'm not sure, but we may have wiped out the smelt run a few years back when we filled your freezer
CW- thanks for the inside scoop on the springer season, it sounds like cruising & BS will be the main event on the lower river while bumper boats will be the theme above the Willy.
where the heck are Larry & Lyle? |
