If Plastimo rodes are on the wet-noodle end of things and WM's New England braid are stiffer than a wedge, what do most of you prefer as the optimum? Despite a new windlass, I may ultimately have to forgo the hard-finished New England rode and I'd like some other recommendations. Like, how does the Simpson-Lawrence stack up?

I would spend the extra hundred bucks and get the S/L brand over the Plastimo. But first I have to get tired enough the kinky Plastimo, and then come up with the $230.
I had S/L brand on the TyBoo22, and never once touched the rode or had any rope related problems. I have Plastimo on the TyBoo25, and it has it's problems every use.
If you can make the tapered back splice to the chain yourself, you might save a few bucks buying the rope and chain separate. But then you might not be sure how the rope will work. _________________ TyBoo Mike

Can we plug a cheaper source for S/L rodes? I just ordered mine here for under $200. 300/15 ft combo. _________________ Mary & Don Anderson

By all means! Thanks.
The one I bought a couple years back was the S/L 300/15. I got it through a local marine store, and with the shipping charge it was $237. |

Good morning to all Brats:
The S/L windlass is a good product and having owned one for a couple of years now our only advice if you should decide to purchase one is to get the 500 because it comes with a metal gypsy. We wore out our plastic gypsys and an upgrade to metal costs $185.(We have a 400). The other nice feature is that the motor is below deck which gives you a nice low profile on top. _________________

Good points, all. Specifically, how does the S/L compare to WM's New England rode in terms of stiffness? The same, or slightly more pliable?
