OK, October, November and December are a great time to think about and set up the CBGT / cruising schedule for following year. A lot of people need to be able to plan vacations or just to put in for days off or whatever - we aren't all retired you know! Also, if you can lay out a schedule far enough in advance, Nor'westing will publish the current chunk of it in each issue (when we HAD a schedule a couple of years ago I did send it in and they published it, a few of you may remember). I bet if we had a schedule Bill or Mike could also make a page out of it and put it on the menu bar.
So far we have the SBS / CBGT in January (Sensei Roger) and Friday Harbor in May (C-Cakes Barry) as firm dates. We probably have Bellingham in July (R-Matey Ruth and Joe) and Sequim (?) in September (Dreamer Roger), but no firm dates yet for those AFAIK. Maybe there will be another cruise in the Gulf Islands like there was after Bellingham, or Desolation Sound in 2005, or ???? Cathlamet? The South Sound (Olympia, Jarrell Cove, somewhere else)? A lake cruise (Chelan, Roosevelt, Pend Oreille, Priest)? Another Snohomish River day cruise? How about going back to Oregon? We had a great time in Warrenton, Mike!
Of course I mainly see things from the Upper Left Coast perspective, but the schedule obviously should include California, the Great Eastern Shore, the Gulf Coast, and every other place a CBGT tradition is starting to emerge.
Although it looks that way when you first become a C-Brat, these things don't just happen automatically. Somebody has to step up and pick a spot and a date, and do whatever coordination has to occur or it just plain doesn't happen! If you have a great spot in mind, don't be bashful!
On edit: it looks like we have Neah Bay in August (SeaDNA Roger) and a Lake Washington day cruise in December (also SeaDNA Roger it looks like).

Pat,
We are going to make the Owyhee cruise next year. I am still waiting to hear back from the resort about dock space, but plan for late spring. It may tie up with the Memorial Day holiday.

Thanks Pat for mentioning the schedule for next year. We are looking forward to hosting the 2008 B'Ham CBGT. However, due to other events that will be happening in July '08, we had to make a decision to change the CBGT to the month of August. Have been able to secure all of the Visitors P Dock (Gate 9) for the dates of Friday, August 15 to Sunday August 17.

Also, is anyone (Tyboo, Larry, hint hint) going to organize a Columbia spring king/April Cathlamet CBGT? _________________ Roger on Meant to be |

Don't forget the California Delta Cruise that Jim (Pounder) hosts in May, the Catalina Cruise that Mike (Sealife) hosts in August and the Santa Barbara Seafood Festival Cruise in October.
These are all annual events that have been enjoyed by many for the past five years. _________________ Roger

You bet...one big C-Brat cruising schedule. Do these have traditional dates? Do we know when they will be in 2008?

The Delta Cruise is usually the third week of May, the Catalina Adventure is the third week of August and the Santa Barbara Seafood Festival cruise coinsides with the Santa Barbara Harbor & Seafood Festival- 2nd or 3rd weekend of October.
Jim schedules and organizes the Delta Cruise and Mike organizes the Catalina Adventure.
As for the Santa Barbara Cruise, I can't schedule until I get a date for the Santa Barbara Harbor & Seafood Festival.

After having a great time at Bellingham and in the Gulf Island's last summer, I had shared with our great hosts - Ruth and Jo and a few others, that I wanted to do a South Sound get together in the fall. I've had some health issues since then that took my full focus [in addition to full time work] - hence my reluctance to make the organizational commitment.
Once my energy is back to normal - I would like to work on a CBGT in this area. I am not sure if that means this next early spring or later at this point. So while I can't committ to a date _ I would like to understand what folks want in a more rural off season CBGT.
I love South Sound especilly the off season - - Wallas stove essential-
Some opinions /comments about necesary local services for your preferred cold weather crusing would be helpful :
Jarrells cove has one shower in each restroom - not sure if the shower would be operational in say Feb or March - is that an issue?
If we do it early enough - before members return [for the summer] to our local private Marina at Indian cove- about 1/2 mile N of Jarrells cove we could rent their slips and have shore power - clean restrooms [no shower] good picnic shelters with firewood, and good protection in the Marina from most big winds.
There is no local restaurant near either marina - so how important is it to have an indoor gathering place? vs - the pole style picnic shelter with just tables and roof with central raised firepit.?
At certain times I could reserve the Hartstene club house [for a potluck] about 1/2 mile from the Marina - where we would have to do our own set up and take down of tables etc. [no showers] in winter - but warm restrooms and kitchen space. That would mean we would ferry folks from the Marina in the back of my Tundra pickup to the lodge - no problem for us -.
Since no one here can exclusively reserve a room - or shelter in our community at Hartstine Point - others could technically but unlikely come in to get warm etc. -If we did an evening pot luck at the Lodge I should probably invite the local Marina boat owners that live here full time. Would that be an issue? [Probably only 4-6 would show up].
Thanks for the input

Jim,
We have friends who spend a lot of time on that end of the Sound. They really like it and we would like to expand our horizons that way as well. Would be happy to try anything after the first of March. We Are OK with boat Camping, and the dock party/pot lucks.

Jim,
Sorry to hear of your health issues. I don't know if you remember, but we met you at the dock there at the private marina a couple of years back. We were staying there with our two boys when you pulled into the marina.
We really enjoyed the marina there and the seals that came in to sleep on the tire breakwater at night were fun to watch.
Hope that you will have your energy back soon!

Pat, thanks for getting the ball rolling on the 08 schedule.
We had a great time in the Gulf Islands this year, and hope to return in 08. Hopefully not as much traveling and more time relaxing. The shrimp were great, I've got to go back for more.
Jim, count us in on the South Sound. When you firm up the date, I'll work on getting the time off.
See ya all at the boat show.

Jim, The Sound Sound area gathering is a good idea. Timing being right we will join you.
The main reason for writing though, is to say we are sorry that you have been having medical issues and we wish you a straight and steady road back to full health.
We remember you well from our Gulf Island cruise --- can't believe it was only 3 months ago !
Our best to you,
Bob & Betsy from Sea Pal |

Thanks for the well wishes - and interest in South Sound - I will check with our Harbor Master to see when folks start filling up the slips again in the spring.
