I just returned from the Annapolis Power Boat Show. Given that C-Dory prices are a frequent topic on the forum, I thought folks might be interested in a couple prices I saw posted.

Cutter Marine had a new 2007 CD-25 (moderately equipped ???) with a 2006 Honda motor for 70K. I think they have two more back at their facility although I don't know if all three are priced identically.

Cutter also had a 2007 Tomcat, again with 2006 Honda motors priced at 100K.

Wow... that sure seems low for a TomCat 255 with 150 Hondas! Maybe the economy is pressuring lower prices now. That is way below what I paid, but I got many accessories too.

If I'm not mistaken the 2006 Hondas are carbuerated and the 2007 fuel injected. Nothing against carbuerated motors but that may play a part in reduced prices. Big Boys Play Toys in Palatka had a loaded out Tom Cat for $106,000 a while back.

Remember that these 100K prices are without all of the goodies--such as electronics and maybe a $7,500 trailer? Even at the best figure another 10 K to outfit the boat for cruising.

Interesting that Cutter is selling the boats off at the boat show--since they are no longer a dealer. I wonder what service after sale will be?

Unless I'm mistaken, the boat at the show had a GPS (probably a Garmin Sounder 498) and a radio. If it was like other Cutter equipped boats, it probably also had a windlass, an anchor, their "Coast Guard Package", and 50' power cord.

Yes, Cutter is no longer a dealer. Service breaks into two categories, components installed by the dealer and components installed by the factory. I talked to a factory rep today, Scott Richardson, who told me that SailAnnapolis would be taking over factory warranty work.

I was disappointed Scot Reynolds wasn't there as in a post a week or so ago, he stated he would be there on Thursday, but not on the other days of the show. Apparently he now will be there on Saturday. For me this meant expensive VIP tickets rather than $16 tickets for other days of the week.

I need to talk to SailAnnapolis to be sure I understood Scott Richardson correctly. What I thought I understood was that SailAnnapolis would look at the boat, authorize the work, and then I could go wherever I wanted to get the work done. I also thought I understood Scott to say that SailAnnapolis lacks the facilities to do warranty work. Lynda thought this was said initially by Scott but was later modified. I have a severe hearing problem so Lynda may well be correct.

In any event, I'm moderately (but not 100%) sure that factory warranty work even for boats sold by Cutter appears now to be the responsibility of SailAnnapolis. I'm hedging slightly as I'm not dead sure that Scott didn't start to say Cutter for factory warranty until he learned I live just south of Annapolis.

Correction...

The post I'd read and interpreted to mean that Scott Reynolds would be at the Annapolis Power Boat Show on Thursday made me realize I can't tell a Scot from a Scotty. It was Scott Richardson (Scotty) who was scheduled to be at the show that day. I appreciate Mr. Reynolds letting me know of my error.

My apologies to all concerned.

Since we are neither looking to sell nor buy at the moment, the price issue is academic for us! But I will be interested all the same to see what prices are at the 2008 SBS and what is included...in 2005 the $69K boat show price for the CD25 included the Wallas, the refridgerator, the hot water heater, trim tabs, the windlass and the trailer. It did not include any electronics or the canvas. In 2006 and 2007 I seem to recall the prices were higher than the previous year for what you got. I am not sure but perhaps they held the $69K price but deleted the trailer - so you really have to know what you are getting for the price to make a fair judgment! In the long run, though, the only decision you will regret is NOT making the purchase!

Sad
Bob & Bill, Where did you get your info that Cutter is no longer a dealer?
I purchased the Jeanie P from them in March and have kept in touch. Two weeks ago I talked to them about winter storage around the end of November or early Dec and they said nothing about dropping the line.

It would be a shame because they were customer oriented and nice to work with.

Their still listed on C-Dory's web site.
I'd give them a call today but their probably still at the boat show.

At the Annapolis Power Boat Show, Ruthie herself told me they were no longer a C-Dory dealer. I was quite sure several months ago that they were no longer a dealer and she confirmed it.

I'm getting very confused here. Wasn't the initial post of this thread related to Cutter Marine's pricing on new C-Dories? I went to their site and it lists C-Dories for sale. If you are selling C-Dories, aren't you a C-Dory dealer?

I think they must be selling out their stock. They will not get new boats to sell when their existing stock is gone.

It is certainly beyond the scope of this list why Cutter is no longer a C Dory dealer. But they have not been listed as C Dory dealers on the factory web site for a few weeks. I have heard that Cutter was dropped from a number of very reliable sources in the industry.

Basically the dealer buys the boats from the C Dory factory, and then sells them. Cutter still have a backlog of boats. When Three Rivers was dropped they continued to sell C Dories in stock--same with their CC stock after that company dissapeared. The boats which the dealer "owns" (or has floored) are still "property" of the dealer--they don't go back to the factory, or to another dealer.

As a factory produces boats, they have to get them out in circulation--so there is always pressure on the dealers to take more boats. Each company has its own policies about this--but some require that a full line be stocked and sold--others only part of the line--or specific boats. Some boats are factory ordered, especially in areas where there are few or no dealers--other areas seem to have a "surplus" of boats.....complicated business--but product has to move to manke money.

What is most important is that the builder stand behind the warantee--which C Dory has done.

I have the utmost respect for Cutter and the C Dory line. Cutter personnel have bent over backward in assisting me in convincing her the TomCat was for us. It is a great boat for short cruises. fishing, and just plain economical relaxing.
Right now I am catching flack due to C Dory dropping Cutter. My wife is big in local support ... why did Dory drop cutter?
